I Wish You All the Happiness in the World.

My New Song called Garden was released today!  Find it on any of your favorite streaming platforms!

I finished my final editing touches to my music video version of the song last night and I am now ready to share that as well.  See Below.

Garden is about happiness. Probably a dangerous subject to tackle given the time we live in but that is just where the creative juices flowed when I was noodling around with chord structures, rhythms and lyrics.

Tangential Story:

I participate in a music sharing group of friends that offer up songs that fit designated themes for a certain period of time.  Each week we listen and comment on the music.  Some of the categories have been such things as:

  • songs played live;
  • songs of artists singing cover songs;
  • songs with connections to geographic locations;
  • songs that deal with trouble in relationships;
  • songs that in some way reference travel or transportation;
  • songs and make you think of a specific media source

and many other and varied themes over time.

We have been doing this for close to five years.  It's kind of a book club for music. Two songs are offered up for listening and comments per week.   Low work.  I can manage that. Yes, we are musical geeks.  Yes, it is fun.

By the way if you are interested in joining the group I am sure you can contact the musically obsessed Commissioner of Music at the following link to inquire: My Five Music

One of the latest My Five Music themes was on the subject of happiness.

The final mixing of my original song Garden happened to overlap when this category of My Five music was in play.  Strangely, the creation of the song itself was prior to this theme being announced.  It felt very synchronous to me. That is my story and I am sticking with it.

Garden touches on the subject of conditioned verse un-conditioned happiness. I hope you enjoy and I Wish You All the Happiness in the World.

Thank You

Dave

SteamPunkPondering is Back!

Rumors are running un-checked that Dave is working to bring the old gang back to feature on his new album. First we heard that he lured fiery guitar legend Lars "Bedhead"  back into the fold with a lucrative contract and plenty of jellybeans.  Lars is known to get distracted quickly so we will see how long Dave can keep him focused on the riffs and out of the jar.

Now we are getting reports that bass legend SteamPunkPondering might be coming out of the lab.  Yes, SPP is apparently pondering taking off his astrophysicist hat for a couple months and putting the top hat back on.  He says his SteamPunk, mosh-pit, platinum record days may be over but he still has a couple more stellar bass lines to lay down before he turns back to the stars and rockets back into the unified field.

Wow, that's almost the whole crew.  There is just one more member of this hat trick plus one to bring it all home.  It will never happen.  We all know that infamous fourth member and Dave vowed never to talk to him again after that disastrous final tour culminating in the unfortunate incident with pastry Chef Ramoneesh and the eclairs.  BUT!...if this happens, if Dave can pull this off,  it would be epic dude.  The air is on fire with anticipation.  Stay Tuned!!

Oh, so you're a psychologist now too?

I have a new song scheduled to be released on 18 March 2022. The song is about how we filter our world through different lenses of perception and how different people can draw far different emotional response from largely the same input depending on how it sifts through that rat's nest of programming we call a brain.  Quite a heady topic and I do not pretend to be an expert but this appears to have infused the lyrics that percolated up out of my sub-conscious during the song development period.   The song was created many months ago and I found this quote in my project notes which I may very likely have been referencing.

"If you observe a really happy man, you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi Desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under a radiator.” (W. Beran Wolfe, How To Be Happy Though Human)

Thank You and have a great weekend.

Lars "Bedhead" Kickassis

So excited to have famous Brit Rock guitarist Lars "Bedhead" Kickassis from "Spray Riot" join me to lay down some serious riffs and rips during an upcoming live studio session. He says he is finally off probation, out of rehab and ready to jam.  This will really turn the album up a notch as I make final punch-in edits and tweaks prior to release!  What an honor and treat!!

Thanks Lars!

Uploaded all of Rome to Youtube

This video is very minimalist and I used a company called Rotor to help me make it.  I really was not going to go through the process of making a video for this particular song but it is hard for me to resist adding a bit of movement as the song progresses AND Youtube really wants video.  The still shot while the song plays is fine but......

So, without further adieu, I present.......{drum roll}...........Rome: The video version

follow up note:

Much Ado About Nothing is a play written by Shakespeare in 1599, and is a comedy. Without further adieu is an eggcorn, which is a misheard phrase, saying, lyric or slogan that retains the original meaning. Adieu is a French word that means goodbye. ... In any case, the phrase without further adieu is incorrect.

So, without further eggcorn, I present to you.....{drum roll}........Rome: The video version

Have a great night y'all.

Lyrics

Rome

By David Husted

V1

I didn’t give a damn

About that boogey man

He's on the tv screen

And deep inside Wuhan

(instr)

But he got out.

Of that; there's no doubt

Then he pulled a fast one, and snuck on an airplane

Then Rome came down

Pre ch

Ah………

Then Rome Came Down

COVID-19

COVID-19

V2

Don't mince words with me

He's the enemy

Go wash your hands, don’t touch your face, cough in your elbow

Give me FUCKING 6 feet

Don't Panic!, run!, run!, run!, Don't Panic!, run!, run!, run!

Bridge

Why?..............

Ch

{Time to Scat!}

When Rome Came Down

Well.......I created a song way back in March of 2020.  If you can think back to that timeframe there was really only one main topic; COVID 19.  At the time, it had not hit the United States in any major way yet.  The news was reporting that it was now wreaking havoc in Italy and cameras were providing visuals of many towns in Italy shutting down (I presume Rome was part of this).

I think this is when it first hit me that COVID19 was serious and the first wisps of fear were wafting up my spine. We had far less concrete information than we do today as to how the virus propagates etc and how deadly it is/was.  We also had no vaccine in sight or even a possibility of one at that time.

One day my work told me to go home and start teleworking.  We are still largely in telework mode today, though this has lightened up a bit. A new normal.

So; this is when the song I plan to release in a couple of weeks was largely developed. I have tweaked it a bit since that timeframe but most of the "meat" of the song emerged back then and it is also why the song ended up being titled "Rome".  That is where the lyrics ended up centering themselves.

I held off on releasing the song back then because everything was a bit too raw. I just did not feel like presenting anything related to a virus; too much of a downer I guess.

Now, time has rounded the edges of the rawness a bit (despite upticks lately) and I plan on including this in my next total album offering.  This means I would like to officially release the single now.

I am sure I will have a bit more to say about this subject over the next few weeks but that is all for now.

I hope you are having a great day

Dave

Lyric Video in Work

Good Evening,

This past weekend I started piecing together a lyric video for my next song called Domino.  The process is actually more time consuming than I would like.  I typically create the video as a means to showcase the music.  It serves as a vehicle to carry the music.  Since I do not have the funds, time and technical capability to make a perfect video I usually am content to just do the best I can and limit myself with a specific "creative" window of time to produce it.  I realize this is not ideal but as in anything in life we have to prioritize our time and move on.  I hope to have this video ready by the music release date.... or not....we will see what develops.  It is kind of a mess now.

Until next time

Dave

Whet Your Appetite

What is the back story of the drawing of the two elderly people on Bough?

I had a brief period that I took up sketching/drawing almost 10 years ago which I have not kept up with mainly due to time and life taking over and which I would like to re-connect with some day.  Anyway, during my forays into amateur drawing I was seeking ideas of things to draw..  I came across this image during my internet search and I just tried to replicate a pencil drawing of it.  I like the moment it captures between two elderly people in love.  This, coupled with my desire to tell a story in a song, just seemed to morph into the song called Bough

Bough: Video Release 01 OCT 21

Good Morning,

Here is the youtube video of my latest song called Bough.

I sketched the picture that partially inspired the song way back in 2011. The song was actually largely completed back in February of 2020 but I just recently put final touches on it.

Thank You So Much for your continued support.  Please consider streaming my song on your favorite music streaming platform.  I receive something like .001 cent per stream...cha ching : )

Video in Development for Bough

I am developing a video to accompany my new song called Bough.  The video medium is a cool way to apply visual interest to music.  I have been doing it for most of my songs lately.  I hope to release this video on the same day that my song is released to all the streaming platforms.  I would show you a snippet of the video now but Bandzoogle will not let me show video material that is not already officially published to Youtube.  Oh well.  This cool video camera I bought on eBay (see picture) seems a bit clunky; I can't find the USB port.  The free popcorn that came in the box was a bit stale too.  Oh well.

Good Night

Dave

Get ready!

Dave created a fresh Spotify playlist this week!

Bough has been finalized for digital distribution and is about to be delivered to digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, Instagram, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Pandora, and 150+ more.

Each of those services has a unique timeline for processing new releases but hopefully it will correlate with Dave's desired release date of 01 OCT 21

What should you do BEFORE Dave's music is available?

Now is the time to get everything ready to listen to Dave's new single.

Create your perfect listening space in your home so when the magic of the song hits your ears you will be transported to a fantastic happy space more efficiently.

Make sure you have paid your Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora or favorite music stream platform monthly bill.  You do not want to miss your opportunity to stream this break-through masterpiece when it hits the streets.

Start exercising now. I recommend a daily 3 mile run and some light resistance workouts up until 01 OCT 21. This will put your body in peak physical condition to deeply immerse in the song and energize all your chakras as a bonus.

Buy a tuxedo or wear a gown.  This music will make you feel like a king or queen so you should dress the part.

Keep that Champagne chilling and get ready to celebrate.

Best,

Dave's Support Team

Submarine Sandwich

Here is a fresh playlist.  I will add Submarine to this playlist on Friday once it hits the streets!

I am also in the process of finalizing a video to accompany the song that I will share with you at 10 am sharp Friday morning. If you are not their at that precise time you will miss out on the adventure of your lifetime!

Submarine has a very un-traditional mid section bridge where I essentially just shout from the top of a mountain top with a growling guitar and a bit of heart.   The change in song style and tempo at this point dis-orient because I felt like walking outside the expected lines of a traditional ABABCB song arrangement. The slow burn build has impact because it smolders, swells, intensifies and then goes boom; literally. In the end, why is the middle so behind?  I just do not know.

I am really hungry for a Philly style hoagie for some reason.

Dave

Magic

Greetings!

Here is a link to my latest music release in a youtube video format:

It is called FREAK

I made this using my free iMovie software and the upload button on Youtube. What a magical world we live in.

The song has something to do with our buzzing, worrying, judging animal brains and the tangled webs we can weave about ourselves especially when we are young. These stories are almost never true.

We are all beautiful freaks

One of Those Days

Here is a link to this week's fresh playlist.  My newly released song is right at the top of the list! Boom.  Who put that there?

Good Evening

Did you ever have one of those days?

Last week both my air conditioning system and my riding tractor broke.

Today, repairs on both those started and I was wickedly busy at work. It is never good to multi-task.  It is not really possible.  Your mind, however, thinking that it is, causes it to fatigue faster because you constrict.   It is now evening and I am tired.  That, my friends, is why I have zero inspirational words of wisdom, fine quotes or even mildly interesting stories to share.

Just one of those days.

Here is a link to this week's fresh playlist (did I just repeat myself?)

Have a great weekend

Dave

What do Escher, Omnisphere and a Roland D50 Synthesizer all have in common?

The Roland D50 with 4 layers of sound

The Omnisphere plugin is one of my favorite go to in the box synths.  One of their sound design libraries recreated the sound of the classic 1987 Roland D-50 synth. I myself still own a Roland Juno alpha which I rarely use anymore but which I am still attached to.  They named this particular preset Escher's Staircase.  It was a major contributing piece of the textural landscape of my latest song.  I think this and the line in my song that goes " I can't explain the unexplained" were factors in my decision to name the song Escher. The music has a certain surreal vibe to it that also may have been a factor.   The lyrics have something to do with loss and yearning.   Those two emotions make good stories. So I decided to use them to make my own.

Escher: In a Nut Shell

Why is it called Escher?  As with all my song's, it is usually a combination of the moment, the music arrangement and the sound particulars.  Finally, the lyrics exactly or by some subtle vibe the atmosphere of the lyrics creates.

This song has a patch I found using my Omnisphere Synth called Escher's Staircase.  So, obviously, that patch had something to do with it.  However, the lyrics, though not actually having anything to do with Escher or his work, did contain a certain vibe that felt like someone wandering through an Escher like maze where one finds at every turn some Twilight Zone like mis-direction of where they actually thought they would end up. So that, in a nut shell, is how I landed on this song title.  It just felt right to me after I had time to simmer in the stew of the lyrics and song for a bit post production.  I often give my song's a "tracking" name as it develops but this often changes or morphs as production evolves and the song falls into its final tapestry.

Thanks and if you have any questions or comments let me know. The song is scheduled to release on 02 APR 21!    Thank You for dropping by my Music Cave!
