From the recording Courage of Fools
Havana in the Storybook
I created a new original song with a very Cuban style clave rhythm pattern using congas, timbales, and bongos. This rhythm style became the backbone of the song and informed it. The song also has some electronic beats and sound textures peppered throughout that give it something more too. I mumbled sang for a long time around this samba-esque rhythm feel until words and images emerged that kept circling around the city of Havana.
I named the demo song Havana and there it laid in my simmer pile. As I finished final tweaks this weekend on the song and as I was about to start the publishing process I noticed that there are approximately 8 zillion other songs already titled with that same name.
I continue to make original music and I will continue sharing it with the world.
Thank You!
Lyrics
Havana in the Storybook
By David Husted
It a shame you gotta throw me outta this big blue canoe
If I could ride this tidal wave there might be a way through
Havana in the story books
Havana in the night
And its quiet now
And the sky is so blue
Havana
Come on back to me
Havana
Come on back to me
[The "No" sequence]
Show me another way beyond the ocean
Show me another way beyond the fight
Show me another way beyond the ocean
Show me another way beyond the fight
Show me another way that I can hope for
I am ready to survive
How the story goes
No
How the wind blows
No
Havana
How the story goes
No
Havana
How the wind blows
Havana in the story books
Havana in the night
Show me another way beyond the ocean
Show me another way beyond the fight
Show me another way beyond the ocean
Show me another way beyond the fight
Havana in the story books
Havana in the night
Show me another way beyond the ocean
Show me another way beyond the fight
Show me another way beyond the ocean
Show me another way beyond the fight
Show me another way that I can hope for
I am ready to survive
And it's quiet now
And the sky so blue
Over Havana.
Coming back to me
