Word of the Day: Felicity

A friend gifted me a book of poetry by Mary Oliver called Felicity. I had to look the word up.

It made my word of the day.

Felicity is a word with a few closely related meanings, all centered on a sense of happiness or something expressed just right:

1. Happiness / Contentment
A state of genuine well-being or quiet joy.

“He lived in simple felicity.”

2. Aptness of Expression
Saying something in a way that feels perfectly chosen—clean, precise, and fitting.

“There’s a felicity to that lyric line—it just lands.”
