Eclipse
Episode Two
The beginning of a new song is challenging for me. I often seek inspiration in other music, make a playlist and down-select to a top two or three songs. During this particular song's inception, I landed on a song called Chemical by Post Malone. I looked up his music genre and here is what I found:
Post Malone’s song "Chemical" is best described as a melodic pop-rock track with alternative pop and emo-pop influences. Here's a breakdown of its specific genre characteristics:
🎵 Primary Genre: Pop Rock
Guitar-driven sound: "Chemical" features bright, strummed acoustic and electric guitars typical of pop-rock.
Catchy hooks: The chorus is hook-heavy and emotionally resonant, a hallmark of mainstream pop-rock.
🎧 Secondary Elements:
Alternative Pop / Emo Pop
The emotional tone, especially in the lyrics ("I can't let go, it's chemical"), carries a melancholic, heart-on-sleeve vibe that recalls early 2000s emo-pop.
Vocally, he uses melodic phrasing and vocal layering that add texture and moodiness without being overly polished.
Synth Pop / Trap-lite Production
The production retains subtle electronic textures and 808-style percussion, nodding to his hip-hop roots, but it's much more subdued than his earlier work.
There’s a smooth lo-fi sheen over the mix, balancing organic instruments with digital polish.
This makes sense in hindsight as it coincides with my lean towards alternative pop and emo-pop influences.
Get this song in your head because it is my song's REFERENCE track. Thank You.
See you in the Next Episode.
