One Song's Journey

Eclipse

Episode Five

Song creation takes perseverance. It takes much more time than someone from outside looking in would generally believe. Well, believe it. You will hit mental, emotional and technical challenges along the way. Stay the course and commit. You need to build your "finish the project" muscle. Having a good reference helps.

OK, so your reference track is picked, now what?

The muses are now called for help and a new song project is officially launched. Project creation typically but now always ensues promptly. To be honest, I'd say you are 50% there already as you have a sound in your head, you have de-constructed a song arrangement, probably chord types and patterns as well. You have also sensed rhythm ideas and you have internalized a song's dynamic structure. All that, mainly because you like the reference song and dove into it. If you have not done that please do….DIVE INTO IT (review previous episodes for context here). Deeply listen to the song in much more than a casual way. All this and you have not or perhaps only minimally touched your particular new original song. It's all good; excellent work ladies and gentlemen.

Ok…enough about the reference but as you can see it is important to initial momentum building at front end of project creation; for me at least. See you in the Next Episode.
