Something about proscriptions

Most songs eventually find their way onto what I affectionately call my "simmer pile." They're complete enough to listen to and even enjoy, but not quite complete enough to release. They need time. More importantly, I need time away from them.

Distance has a funny way of changing what I hear.

When I come back weeks, months, or sometimes even years later, the song has lost its familiarity. I can hear it more like a listener than its creator. Suddenly a lyric feels forced, a melody overstays its welcome, or a section that once seemed essential quietly asks to be removed.

That's exactly what happened with Glide.

It spent a little over two years quietly waiting its turn. When I finally opened the project again, I realized the song wasn't asking for a complete dis-mantle. It was asking for a little more honesty, a little more breathing room, and a little less excess.

Today I finished the final master.

I'm grateful I didn't rush it. The final few weeks were spent revisiting, refining, mixing, and mastering. Whether those changes made all the difference or simply amounted to rearranging a few deck chairs...I'll leave that for you to decide.

Release date is set>>>>>>> 24 July 26.

In about three weeks, Glide will finally leave the simmer pile and find its way into the world.

Sometimes patience isn't the thing that delays a song.

Sometimes it's the thing that finishes it.

Peace,
Dave
