I started my random song generator many moons ago. By that point, I'd already written quite a few songs—but since then I've created more than 15 new ones that I've intentionally kept out of the generator. My plan is to wait until the generator reaches its final song, which was written about three years ago, before adding everything that's come since.
It's been fascinating revisiting those earliest recordings. To my ears they sound wonderfully amateur, yet I still love them. I was learning my DAW, figuring out MIDI, and often pulling my hair out just trying to record a track. Every song was another lesson.
"Where the Poem Lives" comes from that chapter of the journey (about 2011-2013). It's far from perfect, but it's honest—and without songs like this, the newer ones wouldn't exist.
