This song started with a bit of sound-design experimentation: two fast synth leads running on separate tracks. I tweaked them until they fit the mood of the song. Each had its own character, and together they made a great contrast. One came from my Kurzweil patch called “Fifty-Fifty Lead,” and the other is a Native Instruments sound, “Evolve / Analog Vari-Pad.” Once they locked in together, they really started to scream.
What do you think?
The track lives on my album Courage of Fools. Around the same time I was also having a blast with Melodyne, experimenting with how much it can reshape a vocal. Suffice it to say… I probably leaned into it a little too hard while developing this one. It was just too much fun not to. In hindsight it may be a bit over the top, but sometimes you’ve got to play around and learn as you go.
Thanks for listening,
Dave
