I finished a song today.
This weekend, just before Christmas, I attempted to add lyrics to a song that did not seem to want or need them. This song has been festering as an instrumental for many weekends now. In a pre-chorus section I reverse sampled my own instrumental chorus, drenched it in reverb, added some of my 6/8 timed hand claps and prayed for the best. It has a surreal vibe. I placed a spoken word, dream like, bunch of lines, that featured a reference to Crows as the topper. I thought it sounded cool and stuck with it. I tried to sing a chorus with a backup layered harmony section that took me all day to build. It was a disaster, sounded horrible and was scrapped the next day after I listened to it cringing with new ears in the morning. I left the chorus as primarily an instrumental (a bit odd) but added my spoken word Crow lines in the last outro-chorus. The song is a bit unusual in that it changes the tempo from 6/8 to 4/4 two times in the song. I keep the claps going in 6/8 during the 4/4 sections. It adds a curious rhythm effect for the discriminating ear. Crow was born and the Dream Maker laughed. It all worked just well enough for me to put "pencils down" and call it a song.
This song may not be published for a long time, if at all, but thought I would note this date for future posterity.
