Simmering: "Borrowed Skin"

Simmering: "Borrowed Skin" — Vocals Take the Lead
{This song will not be ready for prime time for many moons…I will let it simmer in the skillet for awhile}

Hi friends,

I’ve just finished a new track called "Borrowed Skin." The music, as always, plays its part—but this time, the vocals are the star of the show.

It took weeks of exploring and reworking to land the vocal tone I imagined. I had a sound in my head that didn’t match what came out at first. I wrestled with it. I over-sang. I re-sang. But once I let go of perfectionism and focused on the feel of the lines, something honest came through. The result isn’t perfect, but it’s real—and I’m proud of that.

My lyrics are a wild spray of subconscious threads and flights of instinct. That’s just how they arrive—and I follow.

While You’re Here…

  • My last single, "Empire," is still out there—please consider streaming it on your favorite platform.
  • The full album Courage of Fools continues to make quiet noise in the world. Thank you for helping that happen.

Want the full backstory?

If you’re curious about the process behind "Borrowed Skin"—the vocal struggles, the breakthroughs, the gear tweaks—let me know, I am considering writing a longer post later on the topic and providing a song snippet if you would like a taste

Thank you, as always, for being part of this small, strange, and joyful creative ride with me.

Wishing you a meaningful 4th of July,

—Dave
