A new song hit the 98% mark this weekend.
I’m using this blog to capture a moment in time. The song will be released, but it won’t be for several “migrations.”
What’s it called? I don’t know yet. What’s it about? I’m not entirely sure.
It started with a song by Nation of Language that got me thinking about a certain Cure-like guitar sound, its pulse, and the way the vocals ride that pulse. I spent several weekends building my own musical path from there—different chords, different sounds, my own thing.
Then came the words.
I started pulling together words and fragments from my eclectic music notebook. Something I’d read in The New Yorker about a Hudsonian godwit unexpectedly found its way in.
Then, completely out of left field, something from a Tami Simon interview with Thomas Moore about Henry David Thoreau somehow found its way into the song, too.
How these things ended up in the same song is still a bit of a mystery to me.
But I like it.
